Intellectual property regarding living plant material is called Plant Variety Rights, or Plant Breeders’ Right. PBR does not only apply to ornamental plants, but also food crops and fruit. The laws and regulations regarding PBR are governed by the worldwide accepted UPOV-treaty.

 

PBR are area-bound. Every area (most often a country) has their own terms and requirements for applications regarding PBR.
