Ronald Houtman

I am involved in the commercial aspects of nursery stock. This includes trees, shrubs, conifers and herbaceous perennials.

 

Firmly rooted in one of the worlds' most influential nursery areas, I have accumulated over 25 years of experience in Plant Breeders' Rights and U.S. Plant Patents. As a plantsman, I have a vast knowledge of woody plants (dendrology) and herbaceous perennials and the naming of these plants (taxonomy).

 

I am, besides this, the secretary of the Trials Committee of the Royal Boskoop Horticultural Society (KVBC) and Editor-in-Chief of Dendroflora (Dutch language only), the annual magazine of the KVBC and the Dutch Dendrology Society (NDV). As of 2024, I also am the president of the ISU Trials Committee of the Internationale Stauden Union/International Perennial Society.

 

 

Mark Houtman

I have obtained my MSc degree from the joined-degree Molecular Sciences study at the University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit in 2022. I have done research into the synthesis of insect pheromones and was a practical course instructor at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences in the field of organic chemistry.

 

I started at Ronald Houtman Sortimentsadvies in 2024. Besides my work, I will be following several specialist courses in order to enlarge my knowledge regarding my work.

 

Plant chemistry is of one of my interests. I am convinced that many of the natural products available from plants are underutilized. I want to work together with growers and the chemical industry in order to investigate possible practical applications of these compounds and possibly utilize them as well. Our goal is to become a translator between the growers and laboratoria/chemical industry.
